CARE of HOLIDAY GIFT PLANTS
POINSETTIA- The red, white and pink “flowers” are actually bracts, which surround the true flowers – the small, yellowish-green nubs. Poinsettias will bloom for several months after Christmas with proper care. While blooming, give your poinsettia plenty of sun, protection from drafts and sudden changes in temperature.
Temperature- 68 or above daytime & 50-65 nighttime
Water- let soil dry somewhat then water thoroughly
Light- bright, sunny spot.
AFRICAN VIOLET - African violets are old-fashioned plants that have been so hybridized within the last few years that the selection is endless. They bloom almost continuously and are not too difficult to grow once they have found their niche in the home.
Temperature- 75 + daytime & 65-70 nighttime
Water – keep barely moist
Light- bright, indirect light. An east window is best, but they will grow and bloom in a bright, north window.
CHRISTMAS CACTUS – An old favorite and a dependable bloomer year after year.
Temperature- in order to force the plant to bud, night temperatures must be about 55. After the buds are set the temperature for the night should be 65-70 & 70+ for the daytime.
